Top reasons why I M-learning is relevant for learning and development:
Here are my
top reasons why I think M-learning (learning via a Mobile device) is THE way to
go with learning delivery options:
1. With mobile devises the learning
tool is with the learner at most times: most people are absolutely glued to
their mobile phones. Using mobile phones to learn can almost be viewed as “organic”.
It provides endless opportunities for learners to learn on the go.
2. Location aware learning: a concept
that includes learners to get information on their current location. Think of
museum trips where you get information on a painting as you walk, same
principle applies to this concept in Mobile learning, watch this space.
3. Learning-by-sharing; collaborative
learning is probably the best way mobile devises are being used for learning.
People easily can share information and knowledge.
4. Mobile learning is instant and “chunk”
size; with todays mobile information overload, it’s refreshing to learn that
information be be broken down to what we truly need. Something developers have
been trying for years to get right. Which brings me to the next argument.
5. M Learning is contextual, it can be customized
for a specific job aid / level to suit the audience vs. the one size fits all.
6. M learning is perfect for blended
learning projects – think of ways how you can interact with your learners using
Twitter accounts. You set up the account specific for a session, and keep the
twitter account open in the front, as there is questions, someone can address
and even moderate the conversations.
7. M learning is a great tool to
interact with a all levels of generations. Most workers have a mobile devise.
8. Gaming can form easily part of M
learning. There are already a few development tools available for developers.
9. M learning can be utilized for “capturing”
evidence that work is completed. This can potential reduce the size of paper work
These are just a few of my ideas. There are
countless positive opportunities that can be used for mobile devises within
learning. Of course as with anything there are negative aspects. But for now try
and explore the benefits.
